Le Figaro Bordeaux
One last push and that's it.
From Friday May 5 to Monday May 8, the latest development work will take place on the Bordeaux ring road.
Soon, the entire ring road will be 2x3 lanes.
A long-awaited step forward, for a project worth several hundred million euros, started fourteen years ago.
With its 45 kilometers long and its 27 interchanges, the largest ring road in France is sadly known to its users, because of the regular traffic jams they encounter, but also to the inhabitants of the agglomeration, who suffer from air pollution. and repeated noise pollution.
About 140,000 vehicles travel the ring road every day, explains Bordeaux Métropole, which co-finances this development managed by the State.

criticism from environmentalists
This Saturday, May 6, the prefect of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, Étienne Guyot, and the president of Bordeaux Métropole, Alain Anziani, will inaugurate this 2x3 lane upgrade.
But even before the work is finally finished, criticism appears.
Clément Rossignol-Puech, environmental mayor of Bègles and vice-president of the metropolis in charge of mobility, is already pleading for this third way to be dedicated to carpooling, recalling that “all experiences show that the more lanes we make, the more there
are of circulation
”.
Knowing well that the problem of car congestion will not be solved with the end of the works on the ring road, the metropolis is considering other ways to make this axis more fluid, including the creation of a motorway bar between the A62 and the A89, in order to redirect traffic eastwards from Spain.
This “ big bypass
” project
, which has been mentioned for several years, is however also already criticized by environmentalists.
“
We need a connection between the south and the northeast which does not pass through Bordeaux
”, sweeps Alain Anziani.
Otherwise, the ring road will continue to be congested.
