Anti-monarchist activists arrested

Some 20 anti-monarchist activists were arrested this Saturday morning in London, when they were preparing to demonstrate against the coronation of Carlos III.

In addition, police confiscated hundreds of banners reading "Not my King," said a spokesman for the Republic group, whose supporters were gathered in central Trafalgar Square to boo the "King's Procession" as it passed.

"It's something we would expect to see in Moscow, not London," said Yasmine Ahmed, director of the NGO Human Rights Watch.

Furthermore, she called the situation "incredibly alarming."

"Peaceful protests allow those in power to be held to account, something the UK government seems to be increasingly reluctant to do," she added.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived by limousine at Buckingham Palace, where they will prepare before the start of the coronation show at Westminster Abbey.

The TV cameras captured the moment when Carlos III and Camila left their Clarence House residence, on The Mail avenue, to the nearby palace, from where the solemn procession will depart for the abbey.

On a cloudy day in London, the carriage, drawn by six horses, will be accompanied by members of the royal guard, in their colorful red suits and bear bowlers.

Medieval rites conform to modern times

The coronation of Carlos III is solidly built around the historical rite with five elements: recognition, oath, anointing, investiture and coronation, and enthronement and homage.
