The "Wings of Karambo" youth movement announced today (Sunday) the cancellation of the movement's annual summer camp, according to them, following a cut in government support.
"This leads us to the brink of a budget and cash flow crisis, forcing us to make difficult and complex decisions to ensure the continuation of the movement's activities," reads the movement's statement, which was distributed on social media, signed by CEO Talia Bejarno and VP Stav Vitz.
"Unfortunately and to our great disappointment, the support from the various government ministries has decreased significantly. Therefore, and as a first step, we are forced to announce that we will not hold the movement summer camp this year," they added.
"The summer camp has been the flagship project of Karambo's wings for over a decade. We are aware of its importance for the activists and their families. However, we must take responsibility that will ensure the future of the movement's activities, until broad public support is arranged that matches the nature of the activity and its scope."
"We believe in the importance and significance of Krambo's wings to Israeli society, and are confident that the partnership with the Ministry of Welfare and Social Security will lead to a solution to the crisis we are in for the benefit of all the activists and their families," it said.
Bejarno Weitz chose to end the letter with a quote from the song "Mucharim keep playing" written by Oded Feldman: "This melody cannot, and must not, be stopped."
