Mountain rescue rescues young couple – "Situation very dramatic"
The 18-year-old and the 17-year-old from the district of Berchtesgadener Land wanted to climb from the Grieshütte over an increasingly steep gully. However, they were no longer able to cross out laterally as originally planned and could not continue up through the vertical rock face. Shortly after 14 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, they made an emergency call.
"In the recall of the head of operations, the precarious situation of the young people was very dramatic," reports the Bavarian Red Cross (Berchtesgadener Land district association) in the press release. "They clung to it with their last strength above a 50-metre-deep crash section and could neither go forward nor back." The control center was able to locate the cell phone at about 1400 meters above the Grieshütte, then everything went very quickly.

Young couple stuck at the Watzmann: mountain rescue and rescue helicopter in action
In addition to the helicopter, the head of operations had other emergency services alerted for a wall rescue, "whereby five mountain rescuers with extensive material drove by Pinzgauer to the Grieshütte, set up a radio gateway there because of the poor network coverage and then prepared to climb further for support if necessary." The rescue helicopter picked up two mountain rescuers at the mountain rescue station and dropped them off above the duo by winch. There, the mountain rescuers set up a stand, abseiled a short distance into the gully and first secured the young couple.
After that, a rescuer was lowered with both climbers on the rope so far that all three could cross out of the gutter. "The second rescuer climbed back up on the rope using a Prusik knot, dismantled the stand, also crossed out of the gutter and then went to his comrade and the two rescued," the press release continues.
A paraglider got caught in the steel cables of the Hochfelln cable car. As a result, dozens of people were stuck in the gondolas and on the summit.

Duo rescued by Bergwacht Bayern – abrasions due to clinging
The rescue helicopter "Christoph 14" first flew a mountain rescuer and a climber to the Grieshüte. From there we went down into the valley with the Pinzgauer. This was followed by another mountain rescuer with the second climber. An ambulance crew took over the young couple, who had suffered abrasions on their knees and elbows while clinging. Both were taken to a hospital for care. (came)
