Tensions between National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are escalating. Ben-Gvir and members of his party did not attend the weekly cabinet meeting Sunday morning to protest the security policy. Instead, the minister toured SWAT headquarters.
"I was in the Border Police SWAT unit today, thanking the soldiers and commanders for their courage and daring," Ben-Gvir said. "The residents of the south are also heroes. They are repeatedly attacked by a murderous terrorist organization. But the State of Israel must move from containment to attack. The Israeli government must initiate, cut contact, adopt right-wing values."
Ben-Gvir added: "True, this is not a Otzma Yehudit government, we don't have 64 seats, but the Likud also made promises. That is why I did not attend the cabinet meeting today, and that is why members of my party will not come to votes in the Knesset. We demand the adoption of right-wing values!"
"And one word to Minister Galant, who spoke about seeing many bodies of terrorists, I have no doubt about that," Ben-Gvir concluded. "But Minister Gallant, in recent years, I have seen dozens murdered, we need for those murdered to stop containment, to stop making concessions, not to release bodies, not to release terrorists, but to kill them."
As noted, Ben-Gvir does not intend to attend the meeting of coalition leaders. This is a continuation of an earlier decision by Otzma Yehudit that as long as the government does not maintain a right-wing policy, he and Otzma Yehudit members
