"Now we're going full throttle": Green light for car sharing in Pastetten

Highlights: The Erdinger Carsharing-Verein has been in existence since 2015. It now has five cars and 170 members. In Isen, the club had bought the car, a Fiat 500 L, used from a local dealer. In Erding, the car-sharing association operates minivans, small cars and a seven-seater with a trailer hitch. None of them is an electric car because the car sharers have to install a charging station, but it is too expensive.

Soon, the people of Pastetten could have a vehicle that everyone can use. Because the municipal council has given the green light to the car sharing association Erding.

Pastetten – In contrast to previous proposals, there was clear approval in the committee for car sharing in Pastetten after the chairmen of the Erdinger Carsharing Association Tobias List and Thomas Naumann presented their association.

The Erdinger Carsharing-Verein has been in existence since 2015. It now has five cars and 170 members. The board works on a voluntary basis. Just a few weeks ago, the association opened a car-sharing station in Isen with another vehicle.

"We were surprised by the good start there," said Tobias List at the municipal council meeting. In Isen, ten households are already registered as members and 21 people are registered. The municipal administration is also a member there – 21 employees can use the vehicle with a parking space near the town hall for business trips. In Isen, the club had bought the car, a Fiat 500 L, used from a local dealer. This also takes care of the maintenance.

For Pastetten, the club boss sees two options. Either an initiative is founded and the Erdingers contribute their knowledge, or the Isen model is adopted. This would mean that the car-sharing association would procure the car and take over the organization for three years. The municipality then provides start-up financing of 800 euros per month, whereby there would be "room for improvement and down" at this value. The price also depends on the vehicle and the type of drive. List had brought calculation examples for an Opel Meriva, a Fiat 500 L and a Fiat 500 C convertible to the meeting.

In Erding, the car-sharing association operates minivans, small cars and a seven-seater with a trailer hitch. None of them is an electric car. The reason for this is that the car sharers have to install a charging station, but it is too expensive. The plus point that Pastetten has here: There is such a column and a parking space directly at the town hall. "However, the column must then be available exclusively for this vehicle," said Thomas Naumann. After all, the user cannot have to wait for hours for the charging station and the next user is left behind because the car is not charged.

Mayor Peter Deischl said that a second charging point could certainly be set up. Horst Ippisch (FWE) pleaded for an alternative drive system in order to "set an example". His parliamentary group colleague Florian Faltermaier also spoke out in favour of this. "If there is no e-car in Erding yet, we would have the political project in the district here," Hans Kerschbaum (FWE) also said.

The Pastetten Senior Citizens' Advisory Board, for which Paula Maier and Cornelia Vogelfänger had come to the meeting, also has a say. Vogelfänger said that the vehicle needed two legs. For the mobile seniors, a smaller car is a gain, because money is becoming scarcer and they might be able to do without their own car. "But if you are dependent on a transport service, you might need a different solution. That's something to keep in mind," she said.

Community leader Deischl wanted to know if there was a minimum number of members. "About five to ten members would be good, but they don't have to be there before the start," List explained. The project met with overall approval in the committee: "Now we should finally do it," said Andreas Winner (FWE). "It's totally worth the money. Now we're going full throttle!" Alois Zollner (CSU) also spoke out in favour of tackling the project and taking the risk for three years. He also pleaded for an electric car.

In one of the next meetings, the municipal council now wants to vote on a cooperation with the Erdinger Carsharing-Verein.
