First publication: Yesh Atid Chairman MK Yair Lapid has set a condition for his party members that anyone who wants to run for local elections must resign from the Knesset when the candidacy is submitted in September. Lapid set this as a condition for providing Yesh Atid funding to candidates for local elections, Israel Hayom has learned.
Israel Hayom also learned that Lapid discussed this with Elazar Stern, who is seriously considering running for mayor of Haifa. Lapid's message also went to Orna Barbivai, who is considering running for mayor of Tel Aviv.

The idea behind Lapid's condition is that a candidate who campaigns for mayor while remaining MK is a disrespect to the residents.
As noted, the demand will not only apply to Stern and Barbivai, but to any candidate who comes from the party's ranks in the Knesset will be required to resign from his position in September when the candidacy is submitted.
In response to a request from Israel Hayom, Yesh Atid did not comment on the details, but said: "Yesh Atid will go with all its might on the liberal authorities to protect our children's education and civil rights from a messianic and racist government.
"Local government is the last line of defense for the daily lives of citizens, and this is an arena of struggle that we will significantly strengthen. When there is something to update about the candidates, we will update."
