A 72-year-old has built his own solar power plant with battery storage in the Lower Franconian spa town of Bad Brückenau (Bad Kissingen district). The plant exploded, the senior was seriously injured.
Bad Brückenau - What the 72-year-old had installed himself in his apartment in an apartment building in the Rhön town, the police call a "solar battery power bank". The hobbyist had screwed together solar panels and charging units to form a balcony solar power plant and connected it to car batteries in the apartment to store the electricity.

Self-made solar power plant explodes: extinguishing work under respiratory protection
On Saturday morning, an explosion occurred, seriously injuring the pensioner, who was right next to the plant. The senior tried to extinguish the fire himself, but then alerted the fire brigade when the home furnishings caught fire. "Under respiratory protection, the fire on the ground floor was quickly brought under control," says the city fire department. The pensioner immediately came to a clinic by ambulance.

Self-built solar power plant explodes: Fire brigade prevents worse
The fire brigade then had to dismantle part of the mini-power plant, transport all the charging units, the destroyed batteries and other electrical appliances from the apartment to the outside and extinguish the simmering residues there. "It was only thanks to the quick arrival of the fire brigade that worse things could be prevented," it says. The mission lasted about one and a half hours.
