Italian excellence in archaeological research abroad, through missions funded by the Foreign Ministry in the five continents, is at the centre of the 'Day of Italian Archaeology Abroad', organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Municipality of Rome: an event that will see all the ambassadors of the countries where the missions operate, in addition to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Culture, confront each other. representatives of the institutional and academic world and 180 directors of archaeological missions.
The initiative, which represents an opportunity to make known, relaunch and focus on an activity that only last year saw 246 archaeological missions operating abroad, will take placeon May 9 in the Julius Caesar Hall of the Campidoglio. The work will begin at 9.00 with the greetings of the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gulatieri, followed by speeches by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano.

From 10.00 to 11.30 the work will continue in the Sala della Protomoteca, with a Round Table moderated by the Director General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy, Pasquale Terracciano, dedicated to illustrating the most relevant elements and strengths of the Italian missions financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Starting at 14.00 pm, the work will continue with eight parallel thematic sessions, divided into geographical areas and chrono-thematic phases, moderated by the directors specialized in each research field. At 18.30 pm the Capitoline superintendent Claudio Parisi Presicce will introduce the final reports of the 8 moderators before the final speech of the event held by the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Maria Tripodi.
Among the strategic objectives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is the promotion of Italian culture, which is also implemented through the granting of contributions to Italian archaeological, anthropological and ethnological missions abroad. The granting of contributions takes place annually through the publication of a call for proposals that regulates the submission of requests, the selection of applicants and the reporting of expenses.
