An emergency discussion was held Monday morning in the Knesset Committee for the Advancement of the Status of Women on the rise in murders of women. However, no government minister attended the discussion, even though National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Welfare Minister Yaakov Margi were invited. Committee chairwoman Pnina Tamano-Shteh said at the end of the discussion that "apparently the ministers have other things that are more urgent."

Only two Knesset members from the coalition participated in the emergency discussion – Eli Dellal and Kati Shitrit (Likud), along with nine other opposition MKs. "Even if the ministers are not present here, they should not think that they are discouraging us or that we will shift gears in our determination to fight this struggle for lives and for women who are under severe violence, and who knows who is the woman who is just waiting for our help and help," Tamano-Shatta added.

Tamano-Shteh presented the data on murders of women, with 13 women murdered since the beginning of the year, compared to the same period last year, when six women were murdered. "Since the beginning of the year, 13 women have been murdered - 12 who were exposed through the media and another woman whose details are confidential," the committee chairman said. "Yesterday, Yael Grimberg, who was brutally raped on Kibbutz Shomrat that we all know, passed away, the murder that was done to her and the corruption of her soul went with her until the last day.

"The phenomenon of violence against women also takes a very heavy toll on Israeli children – thousands of children who are subjected to daily violence. We see that children pay with their lives, it's not a decree of fate," Tamano-Shatta added. "The State of Israel is expected not to take the time and not to make political considerations, and we see that political considerations are being made, certainly in the handcuff law."

Just tonight, Hanan Abu Hit, a 24-year-old Haifa resident and mother of a five-year-old son, was shot dead while sitting in her car near her home on Ahad Ha'am Street in the city. An MDA team called to the scene pronounced her dead, with no signs of life. Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the shooting and are searching for the shooter. She was allegedly murdered following a dispute between crime families.

Last week, 26-year-old Baraa Masarwa was stabbed to death along with her two sons, Amir and Adam, aged six months and two. The three were found dead in their home in Taibeh, with the children found stabbed in their beds and the mother in the kitchen. Police arrested the 30-year-old father on suspicion of murder. "When we arrived at the scene, the scene was very shocking," MDA paramedic Mohammed Araki said.
