Also prepared for forest fires: Freising district upgrades for disaster control

2023-05-09T12:16:04.458Z

Highlights: The district of Freising is upgrading for disaster control - with a wide variety of equipment. On St. Florian's Day, Freising's city priest Daniel Reichel blessed a new personnel carrier for the district fire inspection. Mobile loudspeaker systems were also presented, which can be mounted on the car and serve as a warning to the population in the event of a disaster. The forest fire containers, which cost almost 100,000 euros including the interior and prototype, are financed by the municipalities themselves.

The district of Freising is upgrading for disaster control - with a wide variety of equipment. However, the district fire council has not yet reached its goal.

Freising – The devastating flood in the Ahr Valley in July 2021 has also sensitized the district of Freising to increased disaster control. Now the equipment has been further increased – but we have not yet reached our goal.

On St. Florian's Day, Freising's city priest Daniel Reichel blessed a new personnel carrier for the district fire inspection in front of around 250 firefighters from the district. "We are happy about our new vehicle," said District Fire Commissioner Manfred Danner. In the future, the advance detachment will use it to travel to locations in order to sound out the situation there. The transporter, which will be housed in the fire brigade training centre in Zolling, will also be used for training purposes.

For the district fire council, a milestone has been reached

But that's not all. In addition to the sounds of the Freising marching band and the Au market band, mobile loudspeaker systems were also presented, which can be mounted on the car and serve as a warning to the population in the event of a disaster. "This means that we now have seven of them," Danner reported. "But our goal is to have 20 speakers."

Also new and due to climate change: extensive equipment for fighting forest fires. The material in the roll containers ranges from pressure hoses to firefighting backpacks to firefighters. "Let's hope we never need them," said one firefighter in passing.

However, it is the task of the district to be prepared for the operation, as District Administrator Helmut Petz emphasized in his welcoming speech. "St. Florian's Day is the right occasion to say thank you for the tireless efforts of the firefighters. And gratitude also includes showing your gratitude with the necessary equipment." This was also emphasised by Minister of State Florian Herrmann. "The firefighters have the claim to be perfectly equipped so that they can master difficult missions and always return to body and soul in one piece." It is right that the federal government and the Free State of Bavaria are also investing in the fire brigades.

The majority of the costs are borne by the district

However, the majority of the financial expenses for the new equipment are borne by the district. The forest fire containers, which cost almost 100,000 euros including the interior and prototype, are financed by the municipalities themselves. The 70,000 euro transport trolley is subsidized by the Free State of Bavaria with 12,500 euros. And for the three mobile loudspeaker systems, which amount to 15,000 euros, there is a Bavarian cash injection of 7500 euros.

Freising's fire brigade commander Oliver Sturde was keen to praise the Florian parade of the district fire brigade forces, which had previously led to the cathedral hill for the trade fair and back through the city centre in sunshine. "The beautiful picture we have created makes me proud to be part of the fire department." Otherwise, Sturde kept his speech short: "The commander is hungry."
