"We were not surprised, we want quiet": residents of the south react to the attack in Gaza (Yanir Yanga)
The early Tuesday morning launch of Operation Shield and Arrow in the Gaza Strip, an operation that began with the assassination of three senior members of the Islamic Jihad organization, once again put the Israeli home front to the test. At the same time as the voluntary evacuation of residents from southern communities begins, quite a few residents remain in their homes. The Home Front Command published comprehensive guidelines for conduct in the near future. Voila! Putting the guidelines in order: what to do in case of an alarm and how much time you have to get to a safe space.
Home Front Command Guidelines
The guidelines as of now until tomorrow at 18:00 include limited activity in the Gaza envelope, western Lachish, western Negev, Lachish, central Negev. According to the guidelines, educational activities were prohibited, and as for gatherings and services, a limit of up to 10 people may be held in an open area and up to 100 people in a building. Beaches throughout the area were closed to the public. In workplaces, activity can be held in a place from which it is possible to reach a standard protected space during the defense. In the rest of the country - the activity is full without restrictions.

• Upon receiving a warning - close the shelter door and window. In a stairwell - go up to the first floor and sit on the stairs and not in the floor space. Be sure to stay in the protected area for 10 minutes.

How long should I get to a protected space?
Each locality has a defensive time that defines the time that its residents have to act and enter the protected area. This is in order to enable civilians to enter the protected area according to the period of time available to them in each of the various areas, and in this way to enable an emergency routine by focusing the warning only on those areas that may be harmed.
Most areas in the country have a defensive time of one and a half minutes. In areas close to the borders, a variable protection time was defined ranging from the following time ranges: immediate, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 45 seconds and one minute. In any case, stay in the protected area for 10 minutes.
