The great auction houses have a knack for reviving lost or ignored watchmaking treasures. This will be confirmed in Geneva this week. The prize in this area goes to Sotheby's, which, on May 14, during its sale "Centuries of Time: a Private Collection", disperses one of the largest private collections of pocket watches in the world. Among them is a unique piece, commissioned by the ambassador of the Ottoman Empire to Abraham-Louis Breguet, in the midst of the Napoleonic Wars, for the Sultan of the Sublime Porte. Sold for 4000,1950 francs, making it one of the most expensive creations of the house at the time, this Breguet n°510 is estimated between 000,1 and 53.<> million euros. In a gold and enamel case, this pocket watch with a dial stamped with Turkish numerals and emblem combines large and small ringing as well as an independent minute repeater.
