Weilheim – The Caritas Association and the Catholic Adult Education in the district mourn the loss of Werner Jacob: Already in March, the committed Christian died at the age of 79. With his death, the two institutions had "lost one of their supporting pillars of the last decades," according to a joint obituary published these days. Jacob was a founding member of the Caritas Association for the district of Weilheim-Schongau in 1988 - and its 1996st chairman from 2014 to 1. "Caritas was able to use his immense wealth of knowledge and experience at any time," says Managing Director Thomas Koterba: "He was always happy to share his knowledge and was always interested in the progress of 'his' Caritas, even into old age."
He also showed his talent as an entertainer
Catholic Adult Education (KEB) was also a matter close to the heart of the Weilheimer: Werner Jacob was 1st chairman of the KEB in the district for four decades and decisively shaped its activities with health programs, lectures and creative courses. During his informative educational trips, he was also able to "show off his talent as an entertainer and delight and inspire people on the bus and at events," says companion Martin Gregori. The KEB in the diocese of Augsburg pays tribute to Jacob as the "nestor of Catholic adult education", who has led it "with a lot of energy and passion through the changing times".

At meetings, "his fun-loving manner and his great expertise were convincing," Caritas and KEB look back. A typical statement by Werner Jacob was: "Life can be so beautiful, we just have to make the best of it."
Music was vital to Werner Jacob
Professionally, Jacob worked as regional secretary of the diocesan region of Weilheim. In the 1980s, he also became involved in church life as 1st chairman of the parish council of St. Pölten. "Vital," write Koterba and Gregori, music has always been "vital" for the Weilheimer. He sang in several choirs, such as the local church choir of St. Pölten and the Kolping Choir in Munich. As an enthusiastic zither player, he was a member of a Stubnmusi for a long time, and with his playing and self-written stories he also organized countless senior citizens' afternoons in Weilheim's parishes.

Werner Jacob was "an enthusiastic and inspiring Christian", according to the representatives of Caritas and KEB: "For him, the loving message of the Gospel was the centre and mission."
