It is a new breath that is announced for the Reims sporting event of the year. Since 2016, ASO, the great organizer of the Tour de France, has been at the helm of the running event in Reims as in many other cities such as Lyon or Paris. Marathon, half marathon, 10 km and race for children, all audiences could put on sneakers during this fall event. There is no question of changing a winning formula. The new organizer Playground keeps the essentials but trades the marathon, declining attendance, for an ultra-trail called the "Sacred trail".
No plastic bottles!
The event also took the opportunity to change its name: "Reims Champagne Run allows us to rethink the event, which will be a real weekend of running celebrations," says Arnaud Robinet, the mayor of Reims. On October 14 and 15, thousands of runners will once again set off in the city of coronations. Great novelty: the advent of an 84 km trail that will take place at night, in the night from Saturday to Sunday. "The idea is to have almost 24 hours of events over these two days with these four events," explains Jérémy Larson, co-founder and director of consumer events at Playground. The children's race will take place at the Parc de Champagne on Saturday, October 14. The 10 km of Remus and the Semi des Rois will be part of the program on Sunday, October 15.
Another big change, the event will take an ecological turn. Playground wants to commit to a more eco-responsible event. "We try to overhaul the organization of all our events. Water supply is an example. It is no longer conceivable today to offer single-use plastic bottles. We prefer Ecocups that are reused several times," says Jérémy Larson. The organizing company also puts an end to the jerseys systematically awarded to the runners. Goodbye also to metal medals now made of wood from sustainably managed forests.
To register, you will have to wait until next Monday (May 15). As for the different routes of the courses, they will be unveiled next July on the new site of the event: reimschampagnerun.fr
