Highlights: The Pfaffenwinkel Environmental Initiative (UIP) has been fighting tirelessly for various environmental issues in the region. Although it has been unusually quiet around the association in recent years due to the pandemic, a lot has happened, as became clear at the annual general meeting. The resolutions of the district councils in Weilheim-Schongau and Landsberg were important. The meeting also discussed the possibility of making individual parts of the UIP chronicle accessible to the general public in the Bavarian State Archives.

For almost 40 years, the Pfaffenwinkel Environmental Initiative (UIP) has been fighting tirelessly for various environmental issues in the region. Although it has been unusually quiet around the association in recent years due to the pandemic, a lot has happened, as became clear at the annual general meeting.

Peiting – After Peiting's mayor Peter Ostenrieder had presented the Peitingmobil to the eleven attendees in a lecture, Hans Schütz, who died in July last year, was commemorated even before the agenda started. "The UIP would not be what it is without him," said chairman Gerhard Kral, regretting the loss. "He was the heart and the never-ending engine of UIP. It was one of his many life's work."

In the report, Kral gave an insight into the association's activities: "Always the same meaningless statements" were received in response to inquiries from the Bavarian state government on the subject of the Huglfing bypass. In this area, however, it is pleasing to participate in a postcard campaign through which more than 600 postcards have already been sent to more than 40 politicians. Nevertheless, no feedback has been received so far. "Unfortunately, nothing is happening in this regard," Kral said angrily.

With regard to the Altenstadt combined heat and power plant, however, they have also been active: "This is something that has kept us busy over the years," Kral reported of the patience that is necessary. Inquiries about the operation and control of the plant as well as about pollutant emissions were answered by the district office and the government only after repeated follow-up.

"Since we are not competent in these matters, we have given it to people who can evaluate it better than we can," said Kral, holding out the prospect of an early assessment of the data obtained through the "The Better Waste Concept" initiative.

The perennial favourite Fuchstalbahn was the topic

A perennial issue for UIP is the reactivation of the Fuchstalbahn. Even a separate working group deals with this point. Harald Baumann reported on numerous meetings, discussions with politicians and information events. The resolutions of the district councils in Weilheim-Schongau and Landsberg were important.

Thanks to this, the way is finally clear for a potential analysis by the Bavarian Railway Company. "This is the first step towards the reactivation of the Fuchstalbahn," Baumann explained.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of making individual parts of the UIP chronicle accessible to the general public in the Bavarian State Archives. "We want to secure something for the future," Kral explained. However, the more than 30 accumulated folders would first have to be carefully examined.

In the coming weeks, further important points will be on the agenda for UIP: The cooperation with the "Forum Energiewende Ammer-Lech-Land" as a new working group is to be decided. In addition, a list of questions for the candidates in the district is to be developed with regard to the state election.

At the end of the meeting, new elections were due: Gerhard Kral was re-elected as chairman of the UIP, which currently has 142 members. The other chairman Bernhard Maier was also confirmed in absentia. Previously, he had announced in writing that he would continue in office – in the event that no one else wanted to do it. Renate Müller remains secretary, Leo Barnsteiner treasurer and Klaus Hiefner auditor. He will be supported by Martina Listl for the first time.
