As Clarín reported in April, the Province of Buenos Aires could split the general election to elect governor, senators, deputies and mayors. This was confirmed on Thursday by Governor Axel Kicillof: "Our laws allow us to make the split election." And he added, to avoid criticism within Peronism, that "it is not opportunism."
In Berazategui, where he toured the remodeling works of the Evita Pueblo Hospital and delivered an ambulance to Mayor Juan José Mussi, Kicillof gave an impromptu interview in which he was quickly asked about the unfolding of the gubernatorial elections.
"Yes, there are possibilities. It has to do with the fact that by law, we have to do the PASO together with the Nation, but the general election, our laws allow it, we can do it in a split way, "he said in a dialogue with the Panopticon South media.
"I have heard many voices from the opposition that (splitting) was a matter of opportunism, that if it was convenient for them that Milei is there, that Milei is not ... They're with that, right, they run us on the right and the guys jump to the right. There is an Olympics to see who goes further to the right. I have already lost sight of them at this point, but they go, running, to see who goes further. What do they promise? Adjust," Kicillof said.
And he whipped up the campaign of fear again: "So, I say to society, because maybe adjustment is a half-abstract word: what right do you want to lose? That is what we are discussing. What do you want? Fewer schools, fewer hospitals, both at the same time."
And he continued, emboldened: "What do you want to be taken from you? Wages, labor rights, maybe your retirement? When they talk about adjustment and dynamite, the question is, to make it very concrete, who are they going to throw out to make their adjustment?
"From our point of view, it is not a question of opportunism, but also to be able to discuss a little the model of the province of Buenos Aires, which is sometimes overshadowed by the national discussion," Kicillof said.
