Highlights: St. Cloud police officer Dianne Ferreira was arrested in handcuffs and jailed on suspicion of using the card information to buy food at Wendy's and pay for beauty treatments. "You have to be a very cold-hearted person to go to someone's house where your husband or loved one has just died and you start taking pictures of a credit card," Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez says. "That's very cold, very ruthless," Lopez says of the alleged crime. "The information uncovered during the investigation shocked and horrified me," St. Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke says.

A Florida police officer has been arrested for allegedly stealing a dead man's credit card information and using it to make personal purchases, such as fast food and eyelashes, authorities said Wednesday.

St. Cloud Police Officer Dianne Ferreira was arrested in handcuffs and jailed on suspicion of credit card theft with intent to use it, credit card fraud of more than $100 and use of a dead person's ID, Osceola County jail records showed.

Ferreira, 25, was taking a routine call from a couple outside Orlando, Florida, last month when her husband died, officials said. That was the time he allegedly took photos of the deceased's credit card and used that information to make purchases.

Asked if the suspect faced financial hardship that would have led her to steal $450 in credit cards, Lopez rejected any excuses the former police officer may have had.

"There is no excuse. If you go to get your nails and eyelashes fixed and order food from Wendy's, I don't think eyelashes are a justification," Lopez said.

Ferreira has been on the job since August 2021 and has no criminal record.

"The information uncovered during the investigation shocked and horrified me," St. Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke said. "It directly violates everything that is expected of our officers."

The sheriff and sheriff said Wednesday that while the investigation continues, they have no evidence that someone else's credit card information was stolen.

Ferreira was taken to jail Tuesday night and released shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday after posting $4,000 bail, a jail spokesman said.

Prison records did not show whether he had an attorney, and Ferreira could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
