Geretsried: Aiwanger calls for acceleration of hydrogen production

Highlights: Hydrogen is now used in heavy-duty and train transport as well as in industry for material use and process heat generation. A planned electrolysis plant in Pfeffenhausen (Landshut district) will produce up to 700 tons of green hydrogen. Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH in Geretsried, founded in 2021, is currently building a public filling station for green hydrogen in the Augsburg freight centre. The project is funded with two million euros by the Bavarian funding program for the development of a hydrogen filling station infrastructure.

Geretsried - The Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger, and the chairman of the Free Voters' parliamentary group in the state parliament, Florian Streibl, learned about energy generation from hydrogen at the Tyczka company in Geretsried.

"Hydrogen is the future of our company," emphasized Thomas Zorn. The managing director of Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH in Geretsried pointed out that the emission-free energy source is now used in heavy-duty and train transport as well as in industry for material use and process heat generation.

The company, which was founded in 1924, contributes to the full development of hydrogen as a supplier of industrial gases and liquefied petroleum gas as an energy carrier and makes a valuable contribution to the decarbonization of industry, mobility and heat.

As early as the beginning of 2024, a planned electrolysis plant in Pfeffenhausen (Landshut district) with a nominal initial output of just under five megawatts per year will produce up to 700 tons of green hydrogen.

In addition, Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH in Geretsried, founded in 2021, is currently building a public filling station for green hydrogen in the Augsburg freight centre. The project is funded with two million euros by the Bavarian funding program for the development of a hydrogen filling station infrastructure. From 2024, the filling station will offer hydrogen in pressure levels of 350 and 700 bar and supply commercial vehicles, buses and cars.

"They are pioneers," said Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters). At the same time, he acknowledged that supply and demand still have to find each other. For example, there are still too few suitable car models. Aiwanger called for a nationwide acceleration of hydrogen subsidy programs.

"Our focus is now on Bavaria for the time being," explained Tyczka Managing Director Frank Götzelmann. Aiwanger attested to the Geretsried-based company's outstanding expertise. "I am convinced that hydrogen will play a crucial role in mobility," he explained.

Afterwards, Aiwanger and Streibl visited the new city centre together with Geretsried's mayor Michael Müller. At the end of their visit, the two politicians signed the city's Golden Book.
