Putin's war against Ukraine continues relentlessly. In addition to new weapons that can reach the Crimea, a map of the peninsula is also causing a stir.
Crimea/Munich - The Crimean peninsula is one of many linchpins in the Ukraine conflict. As the protracted fighting for Bakhmut continues, Britain has now delivered new missiles to Ukraine.
The "Storm Shadow" projectiles could also reach targets on the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, which has been annexed by Russia, according to a report by US broadcaster CNN on Thursday (11 May). A map of the peninsula could also be an advantage for Ukraine around President Volodymyr Zelensky. It shows Russia's locations in the Ukraine war - from military bases to airfields and ammunition depots.
The Crimean Peninsula
Russia took control of the Crimean peninsula, which belongs to Ukraine, in the spring of 2014. The first armed clashes between supporters of the Ukrainian government and pro-Russian demonstrators on 26 February 2014 finally led to a military intervention by Russia.
A controlled referendum on incorporation into the Russian Federation led to the annexation of Crimea by Moscow led to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in March of that year. Since the Russian war of aggression, President Zelensky has repeatedly emphasized that Ukraine also wants to recapture Crimea. Again and again, the peninsula is in focus. In October, an explosion and fire occurred on the Crimean bridge. Explosions also occur again and again on the island itself.

It remains to be seen whether Ukraine is already in possession of such a detailed map. It was created by journalists from Krym.realii, a project of the Ukrainian service of Radio Free Europa/Radio Liberty. A total of 223 sites of military installations can be seen on it.

Whether a battle for Crimea is imminent, however, remains to be seen. However, incidents on the peninsula became more frequent. For example, a fuel depot had caught fire. Kiev did not take responsibility in any of the cases, but declared that the destruction of infrastructure was a preparation for the much-heralded counteroffensive. (mbr/dpa)
