After the Franco-Italian quarrel triggered by Gérald Darmanin's remarks on immigration, another subject of transalpine discord is resurfacing: the Lyon-Turin TGV. This future line, the largest European project, should make it possible to connect the two cities in 1 hour 47 minutes, compared to 3 hours 43 minutes today. If the Alpine tunnel is dug at 20%, with 11 kilometers drilled out of the 57.5 planned, as well as 30 kilometers of galleries, the high-speed line that was supposed to open in 2032 is much behind schedule.
And it is the France that is pointed out. While Italy has validated the route, secured the financing and given the administrative authorizations, the modernization work of the 25 km of existing line starts this summer, and those on the 25 km of new lines in 2025.
