An unusual incident took place this week in the south. A 73-year-old Bulgarian tourist landed in Israel and traveled to Arad to meet an 80-year-old friend who lived in the city.
Police at the scene spotted an elderly man who looked confused on the street and approached him in an attempt to help him. After an examination, they discovered that the friend whom the tourist had come to visit had died 30 years ago. It is still unclear what caused this tourist to come to Israel to visit a friend who passed away so many years ago.
Employees of the Population Authority's Enforcement Administration enlisted to help the tourist, took care of him, helped him purchase a plane ticket back to Bulgaria and accompanied him on his way home.
In conversations with people involved in the case, they say that he may be dealing with dementia, which may have led him to come to Israel and look for his old friend who died decades ago. The Bulgarian tourist has already boarded a flight back to his country.
