IDF Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Daniel Hagari referred to the killing of Islamic Jihad chief of operations Iyad al-Hasni earlier on Friday, saying, "We eliminated the senior official in his apartment in Gaza City, this was a precise attack based on precise intelligence." Brigadier General Hagari said of the killing of the senior jihadist that "the chief of staff is at the Military Intelligence base in the Southern Command and commanded the preventive measures from there." "Al-Hasni had traveled in several vehicles before, but our ability to work with aircraft and drones allowed us to locate him between the apartments and understand his movement," he said. "He is indeed responsible for Jihad's operations portfolio and for the military wing's systems. He actually received an appointment two days ago to replace Batini [the senior official who was thwarted at the start of the operation], and two days later he is no longer with us."
