Geretsried's city council has agreed on a new regulation on Brunnenfeldweg. Most recently, residents also spoke out against a one-way street.
Geretsried – The Brunnenfeldweg in Gelting is not designed for a lot of traffic. The sharp curve in the middle of the road is also a safety risk – residents want traffic to calm down. The city has been looking for solutions for quite some time. In November 2020, she had found one: Brunnenfeldweg was to become a one-way street with a speed limit of 30 km/h – cyclists would have been allowed to use it in both directions.
"If they don't want that": Geretsried slows down through traffic
But nothing comes of it. The police have safety concerns because of the confusing curve when cyclists approach the cars. "This could lead to serious, perhaps even fatal accidents," said city architect Christian Müller, explaining the concerns at the recent meeting of the city council's Building and Environment Committee. The committee decided on Tuesday a plan B: The one-way regulation should not come about after all. However, the city wants to reduce the speed further. A speed limit of 30 km/h remains the target.

City architect Müller presented the results of a traffic census from 2020 to the committee. He attested to the Brunnenfeldweg "many cars and also vans". The road was "massively" affected by through traffic. "We've been messing around for a long time," said Franz Wirtensohn (CSU). He thought the idea of a speed limit made sense.
Geretsrieder Brunnenfeldweg: Police and residents against one-way street
Arthur Wolfseher also liked the idea: "I'm definitely in favour of it." For the intersection, the SPD council proposed pruning the tree at the roadside to increase the field of vision of motorists – regardless of whether the road was used from both sides or not. In the meantime, the residents of Brunnenfeldweg, as well as the police, have spoken out against a one-way street. "If they don't want that, that's fine with me," says Patrik Kohlert (Geretsrieder Liste). The committee unanimously approved the 30 km/h speed limit and repealed the one-way decision.
