The childcare services for children in Reichersbeuern are sewn on edge. All groups will be fully booked from September. The municipality has to think about expanding its premises. Time is of the essence.

Reichersbeuern – The "Drachennest" daycare center in Reichersbeuern will be fully booked from September. All three groups in the kindergarten are fully occupied with 25 children each. The nature-oriented group is also busy with 23 children. The crèche groups are also fully occupied with 12 children each. "In terms of personnel, we are currently very well positioned," explained speaker Gertraud Wallner and daycare center director Brigitte Melf at the most recent municipal council meeting. Of course, this is only a snapshot that could be reversed in the short term, for example due to illness or pregnancy.

Host children from surrounding May

According to Wallner, the daycare center (Kita) is too small. "In the long term, we have to think about something in the next few years," she said. This was confirmed by daycare center director Melf: "We are currently jam-packed in the kindergarten." There is still a small contingent available in the crèche, but that will also be used up from September. From Reichersbeuern alone, 37 girls and boys were registered for kindergarten and 17 for crèche for the coming year. Guest children come from many surrounding communities, such as Bad Heilbrunn and Waakirchen. While the children of Reichersbeuren could be considered – albeit not always as desired – a total of eleven applications from other municipalities for the crèche and forest kindergarten had to be rejected.

Children with increased support requirements

In September, 34 kindergarten children will start school. Next year there will probably be 38, which could ease the situation in the daycare center a little. In view of the number of births, the number of children could level off at this level in subsequent years. According to Melf, it must be taken into account that these include children who need increased support. This demand cannot always be met at present due to the capacity utilization. Perhaps in the future it would be possible to form an integration group with 15 children, including five so-called I-children. The higher staffing requirements for I-children will be offset by higher support from the state.

Difficult to find skilled personnel

It is also very difficult to find suitable specialists. Currently, twelve educators and one educator as well as eight nannies, two pedagogical assistants and one lunchtime worker take care of the children. In addition, there are interns and additional temporary staff on a daily basis. This makes it possible to compensate for bottlenecks, Melf said. However, this does not always succeed. Of the total of 23 people in the daycare team, only four are employed full-time.

High praise for the work

Municipal officer Wallner and Mayor Dieckmann praised the entire daycare team for their work. The municipality actually has to think about the space problems now, said Dieckmann. He recalled that from 2026 all first graders will have a legal right to all-day care. This will be extended in the following years until all primary school pupils are involved after four years. The municipal councils of the administrative community would soon discuss the implementation of the legal requirements in a joint meeting.

Spaces are missing

In principle, the existing daycare center in Reichersbeuern no longer meets today's childcare requirements. There is a lack of staff, meeting, social and storage rooms. "I believe that we can get by with two crèche groups in the long term, even if this does not always fully meet the demand," Dieckmann noted. According to the forecasts for the next few years, the existing places in the three groups and the near-natural group in the kindergarten should be sufficient for the Reichersbeuren's needs. "If we could then form an integration group, we would be well positioned," said the mayor.

An extension is possible here

However, this is not possible at the current location, which offers virtually no expansion options. Dieckmann sees a solution in the construction of a building on the site of the demolished teachers' residence. There, the two crèche groups could be integrated with the necessary ancillary rooms. In addition, rooms for all-day care for primary school children could be planned in the new building. Time is of the essence to be ready by 2026. (Günter Platschek)
