Days ago it transpired that eight women had denounced a gynecologist for having sexually abused them in the framework of consultations in his private clinic in Burzaco. When the news circulated, eight other women who were reflected with these complaints were also encouraged and approached the Justice to tell the abuses suffered. There are already 16 women who denounced it. They all tell the same story: that he made them undress, that he did not give them a camisoline to cover themselves, that he did not wear gloves and whatever the consultation, it ended in abuse or rape.
The lawyer of these women tells something that is common when it comes to gender violence or crimes against sexual integrity: minimization, naturalization, contempt. The gynecologist had been denounced in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 in the Prosecutor's Office No. 9 of Lomas de Zamora. All complaints were closed.
There is also the exposure of a woman against the gynecologist in 2004 at a police station, where she was advised not to report. How many women has the gynecologist abused in all these years? How many would have been saved if the police and judiciary had acted accordingly? Only in 2022 was he prosecuted for grossly outrageous sexual abuse with carnal access. At the inquest he refused to testify. The gynecologist -of very good economic position- continues to attend.
The same goes for another gynecologist from Corrientes. A young woman reported in 2021 that he abused her during the consultation. Since then, 21 other women have reported abuse by the same professional. The gynecologist is prosecuted for abuse and rape, but is at home, and continues to attend in his private clinic. It is also in a very good economic position.
The allegations of all these women are long-standing. Some abuses date back to 2000. Why didn't they report earlier? Because some of the abuses occurred in the midst of clandestine abortions that these "professionals" did when the practice was still illegal.
Reporting involves hours and hours of expert opinions, hearings, paying lawyers for months or even years. The obstacles and bureaucracy seek to dismiss the complaints. It is part of the resistance of the Judiciary, undoubtedly the most anachronistic and macho of powers.
On May 1, Workers' Day, the Attorney General's Office congratulated the staff with an image that represented the women of the Public Prosecutor's Office in the minority, with apron and broom, next to men with ties, briefcase and computer.
