Spring Festival Holzkirchen: New start with innovations

2023-05-12T08:27:05.437Z

Highlights: On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, the Spring Festival will open in Holzkirchen. Visitors can expect several innovations – not least in the kitchen. The festive kitchen is in new hands after Anian Kurz, who had been serving chicken, roasts and snacks since 2016, cancelled the music train at the beginning of the Corona pandemic. This year, for the first time, the Liedertafel is organising the "Day of Associations" on Sunday, 21 May.

The days of the dry spell are numbered: On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, the Spring Festival will reopen in Holzkirchen, for the first time since 2019. Visitors can expect several innovations – not least in the kitchen.

Holzkirchen – It's been four years since the last bumper car was parked and the last mass was emptied – a long dry spell whose days are now numbered: On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, the Spring Festival will open in Holzkirchen. Visitors can expect several innovations.

The mayor of Holzkirchen was allowed to start yesterday and practice for his premiere: With a three-year Corona delay, Christoph Schmid will tap into the Spring Festival kick-off for the first time on Wednesday. The last edition of the traditional festival in the heart of Holzkirchen took place in 2019. "We are all very happy," says Andreas Beck, chairman of the Musikverein Holzkirchen, which organizes the spring festival.

As usual, the association has the organizational strings in its hands, and also takes care of service and serving in the marquee. The festive kitchen is in new hands this year. After Anian Kurz, who had been serving chicken, roasts and snacks since 2016, cancelled the music train at the beginning of the Corona pandemic, the music train started looking for a successor. It wasn't easy, Beck reports, but in the end the music train came to an agreement with Klein'en Taste Jaeger: The catering company of Magdalena Klein and Philip Jaeger, which operates a canteen in the industrial park near Föching and the Kulturcafé in the Kultur im Oberbräu, takes over the festive kitchen at a folk festival for the first time.

"We are entering new realms," says Philipp Klein. The professionals are quite used to the large setting, for example from Messe München, where 500 people can be entertained at a single event. "The cuisine is different." At the Spring Festival, the duo and their team of six to twelve will serve up classics such as chicken, roast pork, snacks or Obazden on site. "What you want in a beer tent, that's what you get," assures Jäger. For variety, there is a pulled pork burger for the younger crowd and a vegan dish.

Another ride announced

There's something new not only in the kitchen, but also in the programme: This year, for the first time, the Liedertafel is organising the "Day of Associations" on Sunday, 21 May. Starting at 10 a.m., the Spring Festival will experience a second parade from the train station to the Herdergarten - after moving in on Wednesday. There will also be an ecumenical service on the market square.

And because all good things come in threes, there is another innovation this year: An additional ride turns the Spring Festival into a real little amusement park. In addition to the maze "Jumanji" and the breakdance, a so-called "windshield wiper" has been announced. Of course, there's also a baby flight and a children's carousel – after all, the smallest fans are also the biggest.

Beck hopes that many visitors will come. Because the social dry spell was also a financial one for the music train: The club needs the income from the spring festival for its clubhouse in the industrial park and youth work. The chairman of the music train hopes that many visitors will come – whatever the weather will be. "I won't let the weather forecast spoil my anticipation," says Beck.

The program

Wednesday, 17 May: 18.15 p.m. entry from the train station to the market square, 19 p.m. beer tapping in the marquee with the brass band of the music train.
