The Argentine rugby team, Los Pumas 7s beat Germany today by 29 to 7 (PT 22 to 0), by Group B of the Seven of Toulouse, in the southwest of France, for the 10th. and anteultimate stage of the World Tour of the specialty, organized by World Rugby (WR).
The Pumas will play again this afternoon (at 14 Argentine time) against Spain and will finish the qualifying stage tomorrow morning against Great Britain. The British already won for the first date to the Iberians by 14 to 0.
The goals of Argentina, led by Santiago Gómez Cora, were made with tries from Luciano González (2), Rodrigo Isgro (2) and Germán Schulz, with conversions from Tobías Wade and Santiago Feld; while the Germans added a try from Anton Gleitze, converted by Fabian Hempel.
The initial formation of Argentina was with Santiago Alvarez, L. González, Agustín Fraga, Gastón Revol, Marcos Monetta, Isgro and Wade. Then came Schulz, Mateo Graziano, Vera Feld, Tomás Elizande and Joaquín Pellandini.
After making history in Tokyo 2020, where they won the bronze medal, the Pumas are one step away from Paris 2024: the first four of the circuit go to the games, and would specify the classification by placing among the top five in Toulouse.
The Pumas 7s need 11 points to not depend on other results. The points awarded are: 22 to the champion, 19 points to the runner-up; 17 to the third, 15 points to the fourth and 13 to the fifth. Therefore, an eventual fifth place would put him in Paris.
New Zealand is the leader of the contest with 164 units and already has its quota for the next Olympic Games, while Argentina occupies second place with 140 points, followed by Fiji with 130, France with 122 and Australia with 112.
The Pumas 7s played 16 finals in the history of the event, which has been held since 1999, and won four gold medals, while losing the remaining 12. The four titles were as follows: Hamilton (2023), Vancouver (2022), San Diego (2009) and Los Angeles (2004).
