Local and long-distance traffic was to be paralyzed for 50 hours. At the last minute, the mega-strike was averted.

Update from May 13, 16:07 p.m.: Agreement on Saturday: The 50-hour strike at the railway could still be averted. DB and the EVG trade union have agreed on a settlement.

Update from May 11, 17:10 p.m.: As the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs informs at the request of the Münchner Merkur, classes in Bavarian schools will take place regularly next week despite the strike. The colloquium examination at the grammar schools will also be held regularly, a spokesman for the ministry continued.

Strike in Bavaria: Important information for schools - exams in grammar schools take place

With regard to problems with getting to school, it goes on to say: "Pupils who cannot come to school due to cancelled buses and trains and do not have alternative travel options can exceptionally stay away from face-to-face classes. In this case, the school must be informed immediately – similar to a sick note; in this case, the pupils shall be deemed to have been excused."

Update from May 11, 13:45 p.m.: The 50-hour rail warning strike is expected to hit Bavaria across the board, as reported by the German Press Agency (dpa). This includes the S-Bahn trains operated by Deutsche Bahn in Munich and Nuremberg as well as bus lines. Deutsche Bahn has already announced nationwide that it will completely discontinue long-distance traffic.

Other providers of train services – such as BOB, Bayerische Regiobahn and Meridian – would either be on strike or would probably not be able to run – such as Agilis or Go-Ahead – because the dispatchers of the railway were absent, said the Munich branch manager of the EVG, Isidoro Peronace. According to him, the affected bus providers are RVO in Upper Bavaria, RVA in the Allgäu, RBO in Eastern Bavaria, RBA in Augsburg, OVF in Franconia and VU Untermain around Aschaffenburg.

Strike in Bavaria from Sunday to Tuesday - Some details still unclear

Update from May 11, 12:26 p.m.: Whether the railways of the state railway, to which the Alex trains, which start in Munich, are affected, cannot yet be said conclusively, as press spokeswoman Katerina Hagen explains to tz.de. Among other things, Alex trains are on their way to Prague. The EDC had called on all its members to go on strike. This means that it also affects the employees of the Deutsche Bahn network. "If the rail infrastructure is not available, then no train runs on it," says Hagen.

Who and where exactly the work will be stopped, there is currently – as with the last strike action – no reliable information. According to recent experience, it must be expected that there will be no trains on Monday and Tuesday.

Update from May 11, 11:12 a.m.: "This insane strike is completely groundless and completely excessive," said Martin Seiler, Chief Human Resources Officer of Deutsche Bahn (DB) in a press release. It is the longest strike in the history of the railways, which the railway and transport union (EVG) has announced today. According to DB, millions of travelers will not be able to get from A to B from Sunday. "DB once again expects the third EVG strike to have a massive impact on all German rail operations," the press release continues.

EVG strike: Deutsche Bahn is already announcing goodwill arrangements for passengers

Deutsche Bahn will provide information as quickly and comprehensively as possible which trains are affected. It is already clear that extensive goodwill arrangements are planned for the affected passengers. "It must also be expected to have a significant impact on pan-European freight transport." Six out of ten European freight corridors run via the German rail network.

First reported on May 11, 10:24 a.m.: Bavaria - The railway and transport union (EVG) is calling for another strike at the weekend. In Bavaria, too, the employees of affected railway and transport companies will stop work from next Sunday, May 14, according to a press release from EVG. The workers will be on strike for a total of 50 hours, up to and including Tuesday, 24:00. This has an impact on local public transport, including in Regensburg, Nuremberg and Augsburg.

Chaos is also to be expected in northern Germany. As kreiszeitung.de announces, at least the trams are running in Bremen. In Hamburg, it is already clear that those who rely on S-Bahn trains will have to switch to an alternative, according to 24hamburg.de.

Nationwide EVG strike paralyzes local and long-distance traffic for 50 hours

It is the third strike in the collective bargaining of the EDC. Just a few weeks ago, local and long-distance traffic in Bavaria was paralyzed. "Our collective bargaining committees have formulated clear demands for the collective bargaining round, and it is our task to enforce them now," the EVG said. Experience has shown that there are "back doors", especially in offers from Deutsche Bahn, with which supposed successes are called into question again.

"We are currently experiencing this again with the issue of the minimum wage." For this reason, the employees of all the remaining 50 railway and transport companies, where no significant progress could be made during the negotiations, will take to the streets next Sunday from 22 p.m.

Much is uncertain in the EVG strike, but one fact: no impact on go-ahead trains

Whether and to what extent the Bayerische Oberlandbahn is affected cannot yet be said. "At the moment, we cannot make any concrete statements," a spokesman said at the request of Merkur.de. It is still too early to make a statement. The trains of the company Go-Ahead are not affected, as the company explains when asked by the editors. "Since we don't have a collective agreement with EVG, we don't go on strike," says Go-Ahead press spokesman Winfried Karg. It is not yet possible to say whether Deutsche Bahn in Bavaria will also stop working. On her Twitter channel, she announced: "We will provide information as quickly and comprehensively as possible."
