Immigration, environment... Bellamy denounces Renaissance MEPs who vote against Macron's policy

2023-05-13T14:07:01.397Z

Highlights: MEPs are in contradiction with the President of the Republic on the issue of immigration. They are also in opposition to the President's plan to build a wall along the border with Morocco. They also oppose the idea of building a nuclear power station in the country. The majority of the European Parliament is in favor of the plan, but not the majority of its MEPs, according to the MEPs' report. The report was compiled by the European Centre for Policy Studies (ECPS), a think-tank.

Whether it concerns nuclear or illegal immigration, Macronist MEPs are in contradiction with the government's assertions, stresses the MEP.

«

We will propose a text on immigration, because we will not wait for the government to agree with its own majority, "teased François-Xavier Bellamy, vice-president of the Republicans, at the microphone of Franceinfo this Saturday. The EPP (European People's Party) has pointed out the contradiction between the declared desire of the President of the Republic to fight against illegal immigration and the attitude of Macronist MEPs in Brussels.

«

Their main concern is to prohibit physical infrastructure outside the borders to protect" certain places "where it is relevant," he laments, taking the example of Spain. Indeed, the Spanish socialist government wants to build walls in Ceuta (Spanish enclave in Morocco). And this request has sparked a real "crusade" of Macronist deputies in the European Parliament who considered that this proposal was "ignoble", points out François-Xavier Bellamy.

'Normative inflation'

The MEP observes the same contradiction when it comes to environmental standards. While Emmanuel Macron has just said that it was no longer necessary to "add" after the application of the Green Deal of the European Union, François-Xavier Bellamy notes a contrary movement within the majority of the President of the Republic in Brussels. "My group in the European Parliament has been asking for a legislative moratorium for a year to see if the regulations already in place are working well," he said, denouncing "normative inflation". However, the "Macronist deputies" do the opposite. They are "on the left side, and even more to the left than their own political group" on environmental issues.

The same goes for energy. If the reindustrialization of the country desired by the President requires "stable" energy and at an "affordable cost", recalls François-Xavier Bellamy referring to the nuclear sector, the Macronist deputies oppose it. The latter "vote, in their overwhelming majority, against nuclear energy in the European Parliament as soon as they have the opportunity," he laments.
