The Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers, Agustín Rossi, was the first government official to refer to the inflation index of April that gave 8.4%, but he also defended the management of Sergio Massa at the head of the Ministry of Economy and when referring to a possible candidacy mentioned two other opposition candidates who presented themselves with high inflation: Mauricio Macri and Eduardo Angeloz, although both lost their elections.
"Electoral political history recognizes the history of candidates who carried out more than reasonable elections with high inflation processes, the most recent is Macri himself," said Agustín Rossi on Saturday when asked about the electoral possibilities of Sergio Massa with a monthly inflation of 8%.
"Inflation in September 2019, which was known in October a few weeks before the elections, was 5.9%; previously, but the first replacement election of democracy Eduardo Angeloz got 38% of the votes and did so in the scenario of hyperinflation on the Alfonsin government," Rossi recalled in a dialogue with the program "The End of the Metaphor" of Radio Con Vos.

In 1989, Eduardo Angeloz ran as presidential candidate along with Juan Manuel Casella and was defeated by the Justicialist ticket Carlos Saul Menem-Eduardo Duhalde by 47.9% to 37.03% (7.9 million to 6.2 million votes). While Mauricio Macri, in the 2019 general elections in which he sought re-election, obtained 40.38% (10,470,607 votes) and lost against Alberto Fernández and Cristina Kirchner, who took 48.10%.
In that sense, Rossi praised Massa: "I would not draw any conclusions from the electoral point of view in a scenario of high inflation and even less about Sergio, who for me is an excellent economy minister who has had to assume at a very difficult time, who has a short toolbox and uses it in the most efficient way to try to calm the economy and bring serenity to the Argentines. "
On the other hand, Rossi referred to the possibility of a PASO, which a broad sector of the Frente de Todos seeks to avoid: "Regardless of the statements of the different actors, I try to avoid making proper names because sometimes it is misunderstood what I mean, I take refuge in my coherence. For a year now, I have been saying that internal political processes must be respected."

"If the internal political process of our coalition generates a candidate, or a synthesis formula, which means that most of our political front coincides, there will surely be PASO with a single candidate," said the Chief of Cabinet, who seems to clash with the idea expressed by Sergio Massa, who said: "We cannot waste time on sterile interns."
Although Rossi left open the possibility that there is only one candidate: "If that does not happen, I think we should not force that synthesis. It will be synthesized in two or three candidates or formulas, which must settle in a STEP that I call STEP dialogued or friendly, respectful of each other, with five or six rules of the game, a code of coexistence. "
Agustín Rossi blamed the currency run for inflation
"In the middle we had another exchange run, although we controlled it and managed to get all the parallel dollars, the blue, the spot with liqui and the MEP to lower much of what they had risen, it ended up generating an impact on prices as always happens in Argentina, "said Rossi this Saturday on April inflation of 8.4%.
"The exchange rate moves somewhat, you generate rumors of a devaluation and prices accommodate a devaluation that does not happen later. Regardless of how officials or how relative prices moved during the month, for me the most significant event was that brutal currency run in the middle of the month." concluded the Chief of Staff.
