Serpentine lines, uncontrolled lane changes and speeds between 40 and 150 km/h: With over 1.8 per thousand, the police stopped a driver on the A8.
Holzkirchen – Due to his unsafe driving style, a drunk driver was caught on the A8 near Holzkirchen. The 26-year-old from the Wolfratshausen area caused a stir early Sunday morning when a witness who immediately notified the officers at around 4:50 a.m., reports a spokesman for the Holzkirchen motorway police. According to the statement, the attentive road user reported uncontrolled lane changes; the driver had commuted back and forth between the lanes and had reached a speed of up to 150 km/h in places. "Then he was traveling at about 40 km/h on the hard shoulder, which posed an additional danger to other road users," the police spokesman continues. In addition, the car in the direction of Munich was only illuminated with daytime running lights - the taillights were without function.
Breath alcohol above 1.8 per thousand
The police stopped the car in question a little later in a breakdown bay and carried out a traffic check. "The officers found that the driver's breath alcohol level was well above the permitted blood alcohol level." A breath alcohol test showed over 1.8 per thousand.
As a result, the police arrested the driver and took him to a nearby hospital for a blood test. He is now facing criminal proceedings for drunk driving, which will be punished with a withdrawal of the driver's license and a severe fine, the spokesman announced. Finally, he appeals to all road users to be aware that alcohol and driving are an extremely dangerous combination. "The incident on the A8 clearly shows the risks associated with it and how quickly a supposedly harmless journey can turn into a life-threatening situation."
Police appeal: check lighting
The police also point out the potential danger associated with driving only with daytime running lights at night. "In particular, drivers should be aware that on some vehicle models, the taillights may not be activated in this mode." Before starting the journey, the lighting should be checked and it should be ensured that all lights are working properly. This is an important contribution to road safety in order to avoid accidents and reduce the risk of dangerous situations.
Not drunk, but also dangerous, a truck driver was recently on the road between Brunnthal and Holzkirchen. His journey also ended abruptly with a police check.
