London – Charlène of Monaco (45) and Albert II (65) were one of the first couples to be on the guest list for the coronation of King Charles III (74). Accordingly, fashion icon Charlène, who is famous for her extravagant styles, had plenty of time to plan her appearance in the British capital. But she had to leave the day's victory of the most beautiful coronation outfit among the female heads to someone else. What was wrong with the princess?
Charlène's desolate station wagon fell short of expectations
The task of shining at a coronation is not easy. Because at least in terms of color, restrained clothing in muted colors is in demand. For a Charlène of Monaco who has effortlessly mastered the game of being the first in the fashion Olympus, the idea went completely wrong. She wasn't the only one to be eclipsed by another high-class fashionista. Like Queen Máxima of the Netherlands (51), Charlène was a pale figure next to Queen Letizia (50), who attracted everyone's attention with her elegant appearance in a delicate pink tone.

In a light-beige, buttoned skirt and blazer with sash drapery, the princess of the small rock state seemed unobtrusive, one could also say almost old-fashioned. In addition, neither the cut of the costume nor the cream-colored tights did her athletic figure any favors. With her eyes fixed on the ground, Charlène scurried into Westminster Abbey on the arm of the prince in a neat state uniform, as if she were on the run. The day before, her appearance in a light blue jumpsuit on Manolo Blahnik heels had caused enthusiasm, but the appearance of the Monegasque princess on coronation day left fans with only concern and question marks.

Katy Perry (38) was both praised and criticized in the bespoke costume of Vivienne Westwood, the late British punk queen, alongside the editor-in-chief of British Vogue, Edward Enninful (51). For some it was too shrill, others found the appearance of the pop icon suitable and successful.

While Charlène's fashion appearance was already forgotten when she set foot on the threshold of the venerable compartment, all eyes were on Queen Letizia's wonderfully elegant appearance in the peplum costume by Carolina Herrera, the pink clutch (also by Herrera) loosely in her hand, self-confident look under the extravagant hat, a beautiful model made of sand-colored Sinamay, which is decorated with a pink vintage veil by Madrid fashion designer Isabel Terroso of Balel was covered. Sand-colored gloves completed the perfect look.

It should be a small consolation to Charlène that Máxima's coronation dress by Dutch designer Jan Taminiau and hat by Philip Treacy did not offer the most obvious appearance, as is often the case.
