After the successful premiere last year, the second Rockabilly Festival will take place this year from 8 to 11 June in Peiting. In addition, organizer Jürgen Schallhammer expects hundreds of music fans from all over Bavaria, who can dance to live music to boogie, rockabilly and swing in the Schloßberghalle.
Peiting – "International bands and disc jockeys, dealers and a great supporting program will take visitors back to the time of petticoats and rock'n'roll," promises Schallhammer. He himself is a big fan of the 1950s, has been in the rockabilly scene since 2007 and drives a classic car.
The varied program begins on Thursday, June 8, from 18 p.m. with a party in the Peitinger Eggerstadl of the Zechenschenke. The band "Dr. Bontempi's Snake Oil Company" is responsible for the music on this evening. The musicians maintain the tradition of the old "medicine shows", where all kinds of poisons, especially snake oils, were sold, especially in the 19th century and in the first half of the 20th century. On this evening, you can hear authentic dance music with hits from the Wild West from the 1930s to the 50s.
By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.
On Friday, 9 June, the Schloßberghalle will become a "Dance Hall", where several bands will create an exuberant atmosphere with a "Buddy Holly Show", among other things. "There is a large stage and a spacious parquet dance floor. At the back exit, we continue to the open space and the second dance floor, where the best DJs play throughout," says the organizer.
Flea market and morning pint
On Saturday, June 10, there will be a flea market on the Peitinger festival grounds. In the evening you can dance again, among others to the bands "Blaze and the sharp cats" and The Hulawaiians. On Sunday, the festival will end with a morning pint at the Eggerstadl.
All news and stories can also be found on the Facebook page of the Schongauer Nachrichten.
In addition to the live music, well-known disc jockeys will play the best boogie and rockabilly discs on all four days. The supporting program is also impressive: Among other things, you can register for a workshop where participants learn how to conjure up quick fifties-inspired hairstyles for everyday life, how to twist curls, build durability and volume - straighteners desired. In addition, a jive and rockabilly dance course is planned in the Schloßberghalle, and of course numerous vintage cars are not to be missed as a stylish backdrop.
Mood on two dance floors
Background: Rockabilly is one of the varieties of rock'n'roll. It developed until the mid-1950s, when young, mainly white musicians in the American South reinterpreted the black "rhythm and blues" in their own way and with the instruments they were familiar with and mixed it with country music.

The term rockabilly became established only gradually, because the association with hillbilly ("country egg", "hillbilly") emphasized the provincial and rural nature of this music.
There are also two-hour tickets
If you just want to get a taste of the festival, you can buy a two-hour ticket this year. All information about the event as well as the exact schedule and tickets that can be booked online can be found on the www.white-n-blue.de website.
