For the first time since World War II, representatives of the 27 EU countries that are members of the European Parliament marked 78 years since the "Day of Liberation and Rescue" of survivors from the clutches of the Nazis, marked by Governor Gabriel German Zakhareev, under the auspices of the Chief Rabbis of Europe and Israel, on the Hebrew date of the surrender of the Third Reich in France.

The conference, which took place at the European Parliament House in Strasbourg, was hosted by the Senior Representative of France in the Parliament, Ms. Fabien Keller. He spoke at the special event. Rabbi of Strasbourg and the Lower Rhine, Rabbi Avraham Weil. The event was attended by senior representatives from EU countries and many guests, including; From Austria, Azerbaijan, Germany, Belgium, Hungary, Latvia, and Luxembourg.

The event was opened by the rabbi of the Hemdat Shlomo congregation in Strasbourg, Rabbi Mandil Samma, who explained the essence of the initiative to mark "Liberation and Rescue Day" and the importance of fixing it on the Hebrew date. "The Jewish people have the longest and strongest memory, and the degree of gratitude is one of its most important and thorough."

Ms. Keller, who is very close to French President Macron, said: "The incident here in the European Parliament is an obligation to declare the determination of EU institutions to ensure that these atrocities can never happen again. We know that high words are not enough, they must be applied in deeds. But climate and atmosphere are also important, and as you know, we have passed laws through which we can combat anti-Semitism – France, among the member states of the European Union, has been one of the most active in combating anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial. The Jewish community serves as a bridgehead between the various communities in Europe, and such an event is an expression of this."

Rabbi Avraham Weil said, 'The message of this event, dedicated to honest reflection on the darkest years of history, is how such evil was possible. And on a day like this, it is no less important, in Europe and around the world, to think about the future. and to demonstrate by deeds the determination of the EU institutions to continue their efforts to tirelessly combat anti-Semitism and legislation against religious precepts of the utmost importance.'

The initiator of Liberation and Rescue Day, Mr. German Zakhareev, said: "Difficult tests have fallen on our generation. Human consciousness has changed, and today we are all trying to recalculate a life path and build a new value system. But any difficulties we experience today seem meaningless when we recall when the world was sucked into a world war, and the "chosen people" became a target for Nazi assassins. However, the peoples of the world managed to overcome all differences, unite and liberate the world. Humanity has managed to rise from the ruins and build a new world based on new humanistic principles. Today, as we mark Liberation and Rescue Day in the European Parliament, we offer a prayer of thanks and honor the memory of those who sacrificed their lives.

It should be noted that in the coming week, on the 26th of Iyar, dozens of prayer rallies and events will be held under the theme of "From Generation to Generation" to mark "Liberation and Rescue Day" in twenty-five countries, including; In China and Moscow, Argentina, the United States, Tunisia and Sweden, and other countries. As has been the tradition since the initiative began to mark Liberation and Rescue Day, the main rally will be held at the Western Wall.
