No cancellation: Upper Bavaria massively affected by rail strike – already at a standstill on Sunday evening

2023-05-14T13:26:32.863Z

Highlights: Bayerische Regionalbahn (BRB) employees have nothing to gain from the agreement between DB and EVG and continue to strike. Affected are all connections that the BRB uses and thus all routes to the Oberland. The BRB website has not been accessible since the early afternoon – probably due to overload. The strike call is valid from 22 p.m. on Sunday (May 14) to Tuesday (May 16) at 24 p. m. (German time) Trains are not only cancelled on BRB lines in Upper Bavaria and Swabia.

The whole of Bavaria breathes a sigh of relief after the strike was cancelled? No. The employees of the Bayerische Regionalbahn (BRB) have nothing to gain from the agreement between DB and EVG and continue to strike.

Holzkirchen/Munich – Already on Sunday evening from 19 p.m. there is not much driving in southern Upper Bavaria. Affected are all connections that the BRB uses and thus all routes to the Oberland, also various connections to Chiemgau to Rosenheim and from there on to Salzburg as well as some connections from Augsburg to the district of Weilheim-Schongau and the Allgäu. The BRB passengers are apparently surprised by the message. The BRB website has not been accessible since the early afternoon – probably due to overload.

In detail, according to a recent BRB press release, train traffic on the following routes will be suspended on Sunday evening:

Multi-day strike at the BRB – trains do not run again until Wednesday morning

The employees of the BRB are not in any collective bargaining association and thus do not benefit from the agreement reached on Saturday between the railway union EVG and Deutsche Bahn (DB). Therefore, from the point of view of the BRB employee representatives, there is no alternative to another massive strike. The loss hits Upper Bavaria with an unusual intensity. The strike call is valid from 22 p.m. on Sunday (May 14) to Tuesday (May 16) at 24 p.m.

However, the BRB will stop operations piecemeal from 19 p.m. on Sunday evening so that the trains are ready on Wednesday morning in such a way that a resumption of operations on Wednesday morning can take place as smoothly as possible.

By the way: Trains are not only cancelled on the BRB lines in Upper Bavaria and Swabia. Throughout Bavaria, DB expects various cancelled long-distance connections on Monday. The railway had shut down operations at the weekend in view of the impending strike and now has to switch back to "ramping up".
