We are currently working on the creation of a coalition of fighter jets," Zelensky said. "I will also ask Germany to support Ukraine in this coalition," he added at a joint press conference with the German chancellor, who has so far refused to deliver planes directly to Ukraine.
No attack on Russian territory
He also assured that Ukraine "does not attack Russian territory". "We have neither the time nor the strength to do it and we no longer have the weapons to do it. We are preparing a counter-offensive to liberate the illegitimately conquered territories," he said.
This is the Ukrainian president's first trip to Germany since the beginning of the conflict. Volodymyr Zelensky arrived late Saturday night, stressing on Twitter that his visit would be devoted to "a very important package" of arms deliveries to his country as well as the "reconstruction" of Ukraine. The move comes amid preparations for a spring offensive by the Ukrainian army, as both Kiev and Moscow claim successes in and around Bakhmut, in the eastern Donbass region.
