At a warning guard on Schongau's Marienplatz on Saturday afternoon, 170 citizens demonstrated against the closure of the maternity ward.
Schongau – The action alliance "Pro Krankenhaus Schongau" had called for a joint "warning guard against street births" last Saturday afternoon. Around 170 citizens took part in the event at Marienplatz in Schongau.
"We want to send another signal against the closure of the maternity ward at Schongau Hospital," said Action Alliance spokesman Stefan Konrad. The reason for the warning guard was the dramatic birth of a child in the parking lot of the Strobl-Wirt in Oberhausen, because the family, who came from Peißenberg, had not made it to the Garmisch hospital in time. What had been expressed by many speakers at the large demonstration on April 22 on Marienplatz as a fear of a closure of the obstetrics department in Schongau had thus become reality a few days later.

"This cannot be the future, it has to change," was the unanimous opinion of the local citizens. They vented their displeasure on banners. "Place of birth B17 – no thanks!" it said. Even more blatant was the wording on another poster. "Offer of a gas station: snacks, drinks, oil changes. Childbirth and minor surgeries such as appendix, etc.". " You could smile if the situation weren't so sad," said a young mother who will have to give birth in Landsberg in a few days. "If I can make it there."

Appeal to employees at the Schongau hospital
Even though the event was announced as a "silent demo", Konrad did not miss the opportunity to say a few words to the participants. He appealed to all employees at the Schongau hospital: "Hang in there, we have your back. The action alliance will not give up, we will not give way." The fact that the citizens are more and more behind the "cause" can be seen in the many letters that reach him and the alliance.
One person who expressed his displeasure directly on the spot and without further ado was the long-time Schongau SPD city councillor Heini Forster. For him, it was a great need to show solidarity with this silent warning guard and to support the interests of the Action Alliance. "We were leaders in many techniques here in this hospital," Forster recalled, shaking his head: "What has been done with this house?"
