Bicycles continue to be very popular with thieves. Some are just looking for a way to get from A to B quickly. Others want to make a big deal with the stolen goods.
Germering/Fürstenfeldbruck – Because the vehicles are becoming more and more expensive, the damage is also increasing. In Germering, the police have now cracked down.
Since the beginning of the year, the Germering police have counted 65 bike thefts. Four of them alone uncovered the officer during a focus check last Monday. A spokesman for the inspection (responsible for Alling, Eichenau, Germering and Puchheim) reports a current "persistently high number of bicycle thefts".
Cracked locks
The crime scene is usually "train station". Whether the inherited bike gets away from grandma or the high-quality new bike is not decisive when looking at the number of cases. "For unauthorized use, unlocked wheels are usually taken, 'professional' bike thieves do not shy away from picking locks," says a spokesman.
"One aspect is certainly the fact that we have four S-Bahn stations in our service area." There, the many parked bicycles offer an opportunity for theft – or even for so-called unauthorized use, for example for the way home. Another explanation is that the boom in switching to bicycles or e-bikes continues unabated, so that there are currently many high-quality bikes that are worth stealing.
People like to steal at the train station
In the area of operation of the Olching police, which is responsible for Gröbenzell, Olching and Egenhofen, 56 stolen bicycles have been reported since the beginning of the year. A total of 48 of them were cordoned off, reports a spokesman. In Olching, too, it is known that most of the strikes are at train stations, which is why the crime rate in Egenhofen is comparatively low.
There is no extra control day in Olching. Most of the time, police officers on patrol would find the thieves, says the spokesman. "Sometimes you can see it from a distance when the size of the bike doesn't match the person sitting on it at all."

The police in Fürstenfeldbruck never tire of pointing out that the bicycle is well secured. "No matter how hurried you are, you still shouldn't leave it off the beaten track and in dark corners."

At the Fürstenfeldbruck inspection (also responsible for Adelshofen, Althegnenberg, Emmering, Hattenhofen, Jesenwang, Kottgeisering, Landsberied, Mammendorf, Mittelstetten, Moorenweis, Oberschweinbach, Türkenfeld and Schöngeising), the current number of reported bicycle thefts is not too conspicuous. "However, as more and more high-quality bicycles are on the road, especially electric bicycles, it is not the number that increases, but the total amount of damage," explains the spokesman for the guard.
So that the bike is not stolen – or so that the thieves have a harder time – the spokespersons for the inspections recommend not to save on the lock. In other words, a good lock is also part of a high-quality bike. It is also recommended that bicycle owners register their vehicle with the local police. In this way, a stolen and recovered bicycle can be assigned to its rightful owner. In addition, if you get into a police check while cycling on your own bike, you can quickly find out that the right person is in the saddle by registering.
