FDP leader Christian Lindner sees no federal political impact for his party after the state elections in Bremen. "From the point of view of the Free Democrats, there is none," he said on Monday in Berlin at a joint press statement with Bremen's FDP top candidate Thore Schäck. The FDP is doing its job in the federal government, fighting for its projects and liberal basic convictions, regardless of whether there are individual successes or setbacks.
Berlin - Lindner cited "sound finances", planning acceleration, education and digitization as important topics. "With this breadth, we continue to contribute to the work of the Federal Government and work with cheerful penetration to make Germany more liberal, modern and digital."
Schäck was relieved that the FDP is expected to be represented in the parliament again. "Bremen has traditionally been a rather difficult political place for a bourgeois party like the Free Democrats," he said.
According to an official projection by the state returning officer, the SPD won the election in Germany's smallest state on Sunday. The Greens slipped from 17.4 to 11.7 percent. The FDP also recorded losses and, with 5.2 percent (2019: 5.9), is expected to barely re-enter the citizenry. Dpa
