Highlights: The Tel Aviv apartment is influenced by European touches and is decorated in an eclectic style. The planning and design of the apartment is responsible for architect Jonathan Canetti. The landlady is originally from Italy and came with tastes and choices that are strongly influenced by where she grew up. All the design choices in the house were shared for the children's bathrooms and the master bathroom of the woman who is the mother of the children. The kitchen combines wood tones alongside a blue shade that appears in the cladding of the lower cabinets.

Our home design can reveal a lot about the residents of the house who live there, their preferences and where their roots come from. In the Tel Aviv apartment, located in one of the neighborhoods near Kikar HaMedina, the story of a family with two parents and three teenage children is revealed. The planning and design of the apartment is responsible for architect Jonathan Canetti, who invites us to tour the apartment.

The entrance to the apartment is from a blue door, and when you enter you see the kitchen in front of us and to the left the main space. "The family members love to host and cook and this is a significant part of their daily lives, so it was very important for them that the kitchen be as connected as possible to the living room and the public space, and to place a large dining area next to it," explains Canetti.

The kitchen combines wood tones alongside a blue shade that appears in the cladding of the lower cabinets, at the request of customers. They wanted a kitchen made of wood combined with blue tones and got a kitchen that brings warmth into the space and blends beautifully with the colorful furniture in the space, which includes an orange-colored sofa with decorative cushions in different styles.

"The landlady is originally from Italy and came with tastes and choices that are strongly influenced by where she grew up," he continues. "In the culture where it came from, a lot of color was used in all parts of the house, including the bathrooms." Indeed, in this apartment color dominates and we will see touches of it in different spaces that we will reach later.

In the living room is located a specially designed library by Jonathan, who was responsible for its design. "We wanted to create a library that would fit exactly the size required and serve as a nice backdrop for a sofa that wasn't against the wall. We planned in advance that a piano would be placed on the wall with a large picture next to it, and we wanted to choose a library that would fit in with them. The legs of the library are made of two thin iron bars with a gap between them, and it is painted in a metallic shade that gives it a slightly industrial look."

Above the library runs an industrial-style air conditioning duct. "We chose an exposed air conditioning duct because it fit the long, narrow structure of the apartment. We didn't want to use a regular overhead air conditioner or lower the ceiling. The air conditioning duct also gives the apartment the look of a loft, which works very well with the grey terrazzo floor and the eclectic furniture that the tenants have."

Indeed, you can see throughout the apartment the eclectic idea that dominates the house, which combines warm materials such as wood or terrazzo, alongside other materials and touches of all kinds of styles.

The floor also reflects the landlady's Italian roots. "She came with a taste influenced by where she grew up and it was clear that we would go for terrazzo flooring, which is very common in Italy. That's why we also chose cladding and floors from Olmada, as they have a large selection of quality terrazzo tiles. The taste from which it is influenced and the culture from which it came led us to make great use of color at home, including in the bathrooms, so it was important for us to choose natural and quality ceramic tiles. The chosen flooring has a dominant and beautiful presence on the one hand and on the other hand it is neutral and can easily integrate with the chosen style. The flooring continues throughout the common spaces in the house, in order to create continuity, and it even blends in with the bright green tiles in the children's bathroom."

Finally, Canetti reveals an amusing story that also reveals about the couple's character. "They decided that each partner surprises the other. All the design choices in the house were shared except for the children's bathrooms and the master parents' bathroom. The woman was responsible for the design of the general bathroom and toilet, and the idea was to choose tiles in a dominant color, which add a little more interest to the apartment. In the children's bathing yard she chose green tiles and in the guest bathroom she chose red tiles. As for the parents' bathroom, the husband wanted a place that would feel more mature, so we chose two types of tiles – natural black stone that climbs one of the shower walls and natural beige stone that continues on the other walls."
