Last month, a 63-year-old man was killed in a civilian helicopter crash in an open area near Netanya's Kiryat Hasharon neighborhood. The deceased, Omer Lehrer of Beit Hanania, was survived by his wife and four children, had more than 40 years of experience in the field of civil aviation and flew in the Air Force, El Al and Israir. A decade before the fatal accident, he survived a light plane crash in an open field near his hometown.
