Olching - The Olching Golf Club is known far beyond the district border. Both the park-like facility and the clubhouse with gastronomy are very popular.

When it was inaugurated 40 years ago with a big celebration, not only famous golfers such as Bernhard Langer, but also celebrities such as Willi Bogner, Peter Kraus, Franz Beckenbauer and Howard Carpendale did the honors. At a press event on the occasion of the anniversary, Georg Böhm presented the history of the clubhouse from its beginnings to the present day.

"In Japan, contracts were signed directly on the golf course"

Georg Böhm, founding member

"In the beginning, there was nothing in Olching," the 76-year-old began, briefly explaining how he got into golfing in the first place. That was in 1971, when he lived with his then Japanese wife in her home country. "In Japan, contracts were signed directly on the golf course. First you played, then the deal was closed." So he also took a great liking to the sport and, when he returned to Germany, wanted to continue golfing there as well.

The first clubhouse was a shepherd's cart

Initially, he played in Bad Wiessee and became a youth warden at the Bavarian Golf Club. At the age of almost 30, he decided to build his own site near his hometown of Olching and looked for a suitable plot of land. "At some point I did my cross-country skiing lap and discovered the terrain between Olching and Geiselbullach." This was not easy, as the community had nothing to do with golf at the time. "But Olching made the soccer field in Geiselbullach available to us free of charge for practicing," Böhm recalls. They were also able to convert a meadow into a temporary nine-hole course. The association "Golfclub Olching e.V" was founded in 1979. However, the golf course itself was not completed until three years later. "A shepherd's cart served as the clubhouse at that time," Böhm said.

Topping-out ceremony in September 1983

This was soon to change with a resolution of the board meeting in January 1982: There, the responsible persons of the golf club commissioned the company GIB with the overall project planning of a clubhouse. The condition for the approval was a landscape-appropriate design with wood as the dominant building material. After the topping-out ceremony in the summer, it was possible to move in in September 1983. Georg Böhm likes to think back to how Olching celebrated the move together with the golf club and many celebrities.

Golf club has numerous members

Even today, the club gastronomy "Auszeit" is open to all visitors. When it snows in winter, the golf course invites you to take wonderful walks. Currently, the Olching Golf Club has 949 members, including 118 children. Of these, 201 members live in Olching. The teams include a women's and men's team that play in the second Bundesliga of the German Golf League, as well as various teams that play in all leagues of the Bavarian Golf Association. The Olching Golf Club is also a member of the Leading Golf Clubs of Germany.
