Out of concern about actions by citizens of the Reich and climate activists, stricter controls are planned in the Reichstag – which also affects the deputies.
Munich/Berlin – The Reichstag building in Berlin is to be better protected in the future. Stricter controls are planned for this, reports the Tagesschau.
The reason for the planned precautionary measures is the concern of a terrorist organization in the "Reichsbürger" milieu, the Tagesschau reports. The Federal Prosecutor General is currently investigating the formation of such an association.
It was not until December 2022, according to the Tagesschau, that it became known during a raid in the right-wing milieu that an armed group wanted to forcibly gain access to the German Bundestag.

Reichstag in Berlin: Concern about Reichsbürger and climate activists
Similar incidents have occurred before: During a demonstration against the Corona measures, violent scenes occurred in front of the Reichstag building.
In addition to the concern about the "Reichsbürger" milieu, the fear of interference from the "last generation" is also the reason for the tightened control measures. This spring alone, the Basic Law monument in the outdoor area of the Bundestag has been smeared twice by members of the group, according to the Tagesschau.
Specifically, the tightened control measures in the Reichstag contain several rules that are intended to ensure more security in the Reichstag building.

Stricter rules in the Reichstag: Members of parliament also affected
In the future, members of the Bundestag will have to show their ID cards at the entrance. Anyone who has a Bundestag house ID card can be checked randomly and without cause at the entrances, reports the Tagesschau.
In the future, house passes for former members of parliament will only be issued for a limited period of time. Such an ID card is then only valid for the respective parliamentary term. A prerequisite for the issuance of such an identity card is a background check.
According to the investigators surrounding the formation of a terrorist organization in the "Reichsbürger" milieu, the former AfD member of the Bundestag Birgit Malsack-Winkemann is a member of the group.
Vehicles that drive on the underground supply system of the Bundestag are also to be subjected to stricter controls in the future.
