Peiting - The Peiting open-air swimming pool opens on Saturday, 20 May, and admission is free for the opening weekend; however, operations are restricted: this is the current situation after an organizational tour de force. This is because it was necessary to react quickly after all three newly hired specialists had resigned one after the other last week.

As recently as April, the three specialists employed at the Peiting market expressed their anticipation of the opening of the Peiting outdoor pool. On Monday last week, the colleague, who had only taken up his duties on April 1, 2023, resigned – it is said that he would move to a mixed indoor and outdoor pool operation of another municipality. On Wednesday, the plant manager also announced his resignation ten days before the planned reopening. Finally, on Friday, the third specialist. Why did this happen?

Mayor Peter Ostenrieder describes it as follows: "Discrepancies with colleagues had already led to several staff meetings in the town hall in recent weeks, but unfortunately they were only able to pacify the situation for a short time." This was also expressed to the market town councillors on Monday last week during an on-site visit.

Since, in addition to the three specialists, lifeguards now also had a signed contract with the Peiting market and the water rescue service had already promised its support for the weekends, the top priority last week was to enable the opening of the ready-to-use outdoor pool. This was achieved in the short term.

Involved earlier

With Markus Häringer, we were able to recruit a specialist who had already worked at the Peitinger Bad in the past. Throughout the season, supported on the one hand by many lifeguards and on the technical side by the municipal building authority, he will ensure that every visitor not only feels comfortable in the Peitinger Bad, but can also feel safe.

The special features and requirements of a pure outdoor swimming pool in particular pose considerable hurdles in the recruitment of skilled workers, who are in great demand everywhere. This is because duty rosters and times are very dependent on the weather and are also seasonally limited, which is definitely more employee-friendly, e.g. in a mixed facility (indoor and outdoor pool). This was clearly communicated to the mayor by a corresponding specialist during the search for personnel last week.

Häringer, in close cooperation with the lifeguards and the administration in the town hall, will enable a limited opening of the outdoor pool under the given circumstances. In addition, at the beginning of the year, the guideline on the deployment of personnel in pools changed somewhat, so that the solution now presented can also be implemented in compliance with the law with a specialist.

No season tickets

Next weekend, May 20 and 21, the bath will open from 10 a.m. Admission is free, so visitors can come by to just look at the outdoor pool without unpacking their swimming trunks or bikini. Contrary to what was initially announced, there is no advance sale for season tickets due to the new situation with limited opening hours.

My Area

After a closure period from Monday, 22 May, to Friday, 26 May, the outdoor wave pool will resume daily operations on Saturday, 27 May. Limited operation is planned - always on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m. On weekdays it is open from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and then from 14 p.m. to 18 p.m. or longer from mid-June to mid-August.

Members of the market town council got an impression of the measures implemented in the outdoor pool in 2022 and 2023. These include, in particular, a renovated entrance area, a lounge area in the covered area of the kiosk, a reading corner with book exchange, renewed showers and toilets, barefoot-friendly paving, partly an easy laying of paths, an upgrade of the toddler area with sun protection, seating and other playground equipment, a fall protection surface with new play equipment at the water playground and much more.

Much of the work was also carried out by the municipal building yard for reasons of practicability. Men from the building yard worked, as Franz Kees from the building authority explained on Monday on site, last for many weeks on the grounds of the wave pool.

After the personnel discrepancies with the dismissals, he was relieved that the pool could be opened despite all the time restrictions, said local councillor Alfred Jocher, who used to be a bathroom consultant for 20 years. From this time he still knows Markus Häringer, who worked in the outdoor wave pool for a few years; That was in the middle of the last decade – during the transition from the long-standing "institution" Willi Bohdal to Robert Zwick.

Even if he doesn't know all the backgrounds – "I'm disappointed with these people," Jocher vents his displeasure after the three dismissals. Ultimately, however, this is a reflection of the "changes in our society", in which the concept of work and the idea of leisure time are evaluated differently by some people than in the past.
