Exciting reunion: The people of Geretsried, who experienced a varied childhood in the district of Stein, had a lot to talk about. © ph
Many guests from near and far were recently able to welcome Lilo Plangger and Harald Metz to the Gasthof Geiger. The "Alt-Steiner" celebrated their second nostalgic meeting.
Geretsried – The need to reminisce about the youth they spent together in the Stein district was particularly great after the first meeting eight years ago and the cancellation due to corona in 2020. So Metz waited patiently for more than half an hour until the last "Alt-Steiner" had really found his place at the decorated tables and placed his cake order.

Afterwards, the 75-year-old recalled the 1950s, when the "stone barracks" were converted into apartments for refugees. The freelance author read from a book by his mother, who had written down her experiences in "White Sparrow – New Nest in Upper Bavaria".
Moving with tractor and fully loaded trailer
In 1951 she had received a letter from the municipality of Dietramszell in which she was assured of an apartment in Geretsried-Stein. "Since the Tattenkofen Bridge had not yet been rebuilt, we had to take the detour via Ascholding and Wolfratshausen," Metz quoted his mother as saying. With a tractor and a fully loaded trailer, the move to house number 207 could be managed.

"For us children, it was almost paradisiacal conditions at the time," Metz reported. Because in Stein there were plenty of football pitches, climbing trees and hardly used roads. In addition, the children slid down the sloping concrete walls of a swimming pool with a tin bucket lid under their butts.

In the water, the boys and girls floated self-made boats with egg steam propulsion. This worked with a candle stub and water in a previously blown-out egg. As a four-year-old toddler, Harald Metz skied down the slope in the water-free southern half of the pool with his skis given as a Christmas gift. Other "not harmless adventure playgrounds" were the bunkers in the vicinity, some of which were blown up. The children and adolescents used a former gravel group on Tattenkofener Straße as a bathing lake. "All in all, my time as a child in 'Alt-Stein' was one of the best times in my life," said the 75-year-old.

Very long journey accepted
The approximately 70 visitors who appeared at the Gasthof Geiger saw it the same way and were visibly moved by a presentation of nostalgic pictures after the lecture. In this context, Metz thanked Lilo Plangger, who had made the second meeting of the Alt-Steiner possible due to her good contacts. Some participants, who now live in other cities, had even made a very long journey to Geretsried.
