The Verdi trade union has called on employees to go on a warning strike on Friday (19 May). Then local transport will come to a standstill in many places in Bavaria.
Munich – For next Friday (19 May), the trade union Verdi has announced a full-day warning strike for several Bavarian cities, including Munich and Nuremberg. The starting point is a fifth round of negotiations, which initially failed to produce a result. The union's demand for higher wages was not met. "The logical consequence is these warning strikes," said negotiator Sinan Öztürk on Wednesday (17 May) in Munich.
Local transport affected throughout Bavaria: Verdi calls for all-day warning strike on Friday
In the case of Bavarian public transport, the TV-N collective agreement applies. This is a tariff that is negotiated separately from the rest of the public service or the railways and now results in an all-day strike in Regensburg, Fürth, Landshut, Schweinfurt, Bamberg and Bayreuth. In addition, Munich (MVG) and Nuremberg () must be prepared for a full-day strike between Friday, 3.30 a.m., and Saturday, 3.30 a.m.
While it is certain that MVG subways and trams will not run during the aforementioned period, according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ), half of Munich's bus services will be maintained. The S-Bahn runs as usual, as it belongs to Deutsche Bahn. It is currently not known whether the subway service will be resumed at short notice during the day. A possible resumption of operations is essentially related to the available personnel. (CEI/dpa)
