Not yet the counter-offensive

Regarding the advance in Bakhmut, however, the Ukrainian president stressed on Monday that it was not yet the long-awaited counter-offensive that Kiev has been preparing for months. Russian troops continue to advance into the city, "completely destroying the city with artillery," Maliar said.

Wagner's conductor, Yevgeny Prigozhin, confirmed in an audio recording: "Today, Wagner's units advanced 200 meters and occupied an area of 113,000 m2. Only 1.46 square kilometers remain under enemy control in Bakhmut."

Paramilitary leader Wagner announces death of American at front

The leader of the Wagner paramilitary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, announced Tuesday the death of an American volunteer engaged alongside troops in Kiev, eastern Ukraine.

In a video relayed by Russian military bloggers, Prigozhin appeared showing the body of a soldier he said was American, in the rubble of a building.

In this short video, he is seen walking with his men at night and we hear thuds of explosions around, without being able to determine exactly where the scene takes place or when.

Standing next to the body of this soldier lying on his back bare-chested, a wound in his stomach, he said in a solemn and ironic tone: "He came to meet us. Citizen of the United States of America."
