Fürstenfeldbruck – After planting 30,000 trees in 2021 and 10,000 fruit trees in 2022, the PiT-Togohilfe campaign wants to continue the Togo Forest Challenge in 2023.
This time it is about 20,000 "health trees" that are to be planted in the ten model villages. In March, the chairmen Margret and Andy Kopp met traditional physicians during a project visit to Togo and were told about their concerns. For example, a large proportion of the plants they use are threatened with extinction due to climate change. Among them were tree species such as iroko, laurel, tamarin or moringa, whose leaves, fruits, bark and roots had made successful treatments possible.
Tree sponsors sought for 20,000 "health trees"
It was immediately clear that in order to counteract this trend, the Togo Forest Challenge had to be continued. The aim is to find tree sponsors for 20,000 "health trees". With three euros per seedling, the trees can be planted - an important contribution to climate protection and at the same time to the availability of necessary medicinal plant components for the treatment of medicinal herbs by the medicine men on site. The challenge is also to find the tree sponsors for 20,000 seedlings as early as July, as this is when the rainy season begins and this is the ideal time for planting.
Start the challenge with a donation
The chairmen Margret and Andy Kopp are confident that they will be able to meet this challenge. The start of the challenge with a donation of 1,000 euros from the Karl Hornberger Foundation from the district has already secured the first 333 seedlings. "We hope that many tree sponsors will follow this example and take over one or more seedlings." On the homepage www.aktionpit.de there is information about the Togo Forest Challenge and you can track how many health trees have already been secured.
