Natalio Lattanzi, mayor of Rufino, in the south of the province of Santa Fe, was brutally assaulted by municipal employees when he tried to enter the municipality during a strike for better wages, which according to the community chief corresponds to a claim that concerns the government of the province, of Peronist origin.
"These are the usual practices of certain trade unionists who act in this way, at the same time that we are in a mandatory conciliation in the Ministry of Labor, in Rosario, because we agreed that the issue be debated institutionally," the mayor told provincial media and acknowledged that he is "somewhat pained" by the blows.
"I have a few punches, kicks, sticks, trumpets. The truth is that it was a very complex moment, I had never lived it since I am mayor, this is my second term. It really was an act of absolute pathos," Lattanzi said in a dialogue with Agofa TV of Santa Fe.
"I came from an activity, I did not leave, but I was entering the Municipality. They traveled from different parts of the province, from Roldán, Villa Gobernador Gálvez, from Rosario. They threw stones, damaged vehicles, dented doors," said the community chief.
The municipal demonstrators were protesting the lack of family allowances and problems in the provincial social work, which according to the mayor, by "uses and customs and by law, family allowances are signed by the governor by a provincial decree, both for municipal employees and for provincial employees."
"We, far from being afraid, are going to sustain the culture of work and those who do not work do not get paid. There are people asking for work, there is loss of jobs and these people, who should have the institutional responsibility to see how the issue is resolved, comes to worsen the situation, being that Rufino is a municipality that has been improving substantially in the move to permanent plant, "he said.
The violent episode had the solidarity of national leaders. One of those who expressed herself was the radical national senator and pre-candidate for governor of Santa Fe for Together for Change, Carolina Losada: "I regret and repudiate the acts of violence against the mayor of Rufino Natalio Lattanzi and I sympathize. I will not tolerate squeezing or violence as governor in my province."

The Municipality of Rufino paid the salaries of the staffwith the deduction of the days not worked by the strike of April 27 and 28 and that sparked the conflict.
"They do the same with the joint table, they say that the strike is provincial, but they do it to the municipalities, and in the joint table they press us to sign an assignment when we do not have the powers. This is the double standard that the unionism is handling of the pressures and threats, and the truth is that we are not going to accede in those terms, because it does not correspond," Lattanzi responded.
